Due to be released in December 2021, LEGO cancelled it releasing the following statement: "We decided not to release this product as it didn't meet our strict quality standards. Because we work so hard to provide the best possible play experiences, we never compromise the quality of our products."

While Lego never gave a specific breakdown, both the fan community and images of the leaked set point to two major issues:

• The "Naughty List": The set included a printed 2 × 3 tile reading "Santa's naughty list." It featured legible names, sparking concerns that children might end up finding their own names on the list.
• A Grumpy Santa: The Santa Claus minifigure included in the set looked actively angry, which clashed with the traditionally joyous holiday theme.
